Drama as Natasha walks out of Senate C’ttee’s sitting after verbal exchange with chairman

By Folayimika Akanbi
A mild drama played out in Abuja on Wednesday when the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, angrily staged a walk out of the meeting of the Senate Committee on Mines and Steel Development following a war of words.
Natasha, who has been grappling with a running battle with the leadership of the upper chamber of the National Assembly, engaged in an altercation with the Chairman of the Senate Committee  on Mines and Steel Development and Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, Patrick Ndubueze.
The verbal exchange was not unconnected with challenges facing the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company, which is located within the senatorial district of Natasha in Kogi State.
A viral video showed that the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu, alongside some of officials of his ministry, appeared before the senate committee to present the ministry’s budget proposal when the incident occurred.
Premium Times, however, observed that there was a disagreement before the end of the meeting when Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan attempted to ask questions regarding the state of Ajaokuta Steel Company.
She had barely started speaking when Ndubueze told her that the committee had concluded its budget scrutiny with the minister and advised her to reserve her questions for another appearance.
Natasha, who was visibly irked over the attempt to silence her, stood up from her seat, packed some documents and staged a walk out of the meeting.
