*KWARA HEROES* pays tribute to the late Major General Abdulbaki Tunde Idiagbon, a distinguished son of Kwara, an esteemed descendant of Ilorin, and a respected Army Officer.
Born on 14th September, 1943, died on 24th March, 1999. He lived a life of purpose and service, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history.
On this day, 24th March, 2026, we commemorate 27 years since his passing. His legacy lives on through his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development.
As the 2nd in Command, he led with courage and conviction, initiating the war against indiscipline and shaping the nation’s path. His tenure as Military Governor of Borno State (1978-1979) and Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters (1983-1985), showcased his leadership prowess.
He was a man of dignity, loyalty, and principle, who prioritized his nation and people above personal interests.
His visionary leadership and unwavering stance against corruption remain an inspiration.
He declined an offer from the Saudi Arabian government to live in their country, choosing instead to stand by his principles and people.
We honour his memory and celebrate his life’s work. His impact on Nigeria’s history will never be forgotten.
The Federal Government immortalized him by naming the Ilorin International Airport after him, and Kwara State Government named a flyover bridge in his honour.
May Allah intensify His eternal peace and blessings upon his departed soul and admit him into Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
