Anxiety is mounting among appointees of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, over the recent directive to any of them interested in seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections to tender their letters of resignation.
It was learnt that the circular issued from the office of the state Head of Service to civil servants, who nurse political ambition in the forthcoming elections to resign, is also applicable to the current political appointees both in the cabinet and in appointive public offices.
While electronic posters of some appointees of the Governor interested in elective offices were already circulating on social media handles, others in the same category were said to be studying the body language of their principal before coming out in full glare to join the race.
Some of them were also said to be consulting with stakeholders and top hierarchy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) prior to their public declaration.
Just a few days ago, the electronic flyers of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi (also known as Solace), saturated the social media space, indicating his interest to contest the Irepodun Constituency seat in the state House of Assembly.
Wind Gate News learnt that some of the appointees also considered the outcome of the just concluded ward, local government and state congresses and national convention of the APC as a prelude to make their intentions known.
Investigation showed that apart from Solace, a member of the media team of the Governor is also eyeing one of the seats of Ifelodun constituencies in the state House of Assembly.
Besides, one of the commissioners in the state executive council may also turn in his letter of resignation to contest in the primary election of the APC for the seat of Ilorin East and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Findings revealed that the interested appointees are still banking on the blessings of the Governor before throwing their hats into the ring.
Informed sources told Wind Gate News that those eyeing elective offices in the next elections would begin to resign from their positions in the coming days to enable them concentrate and face the task ahead.
One of them said, “You know there was a directive from the office of the state Head of Service to civil servants who wanted to contest in the forthcoming general elections to resign, the same thing is applicable to office holders in the cabinet of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and in public offices.
“What I have noticed is that those who have political ambitions among them are waiting for the outcome of the congresses of the APC before showing any open interest. Some of them who confided in ‘Oga’ (principal) about their interest for elective offices seem to be waiting for his body language to know whether he is disposed to their ambitions.
“This is because they don’t want to act in a manner that after resigning from their offices, nothing comes their way; that is a double jeopardy. Since the Governor has not dissolved his cabinet, it is not certain that they will be reappointed or reassigned their positions in the event that they suffer defeat in the primaries.
“It is very dicey and risky. A situation like that often comes with a lot of prices for those who know. Some of them are also being careful because the Governor himself has said it openly that he does not have anointed candidates. So, that alone is very complicating for them,” the source said.
This medium recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation recently gave political and public office holders in the government at the centre March 31st, 2026 ultimatum to resign from their offices if they are interested in vying for elective offices in the 2027 polls.
The directive followed the secret consultations many of them had undertaken to realize their political ambitions on the platform of the APC.
