A former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Dr Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa, has formally declared his intention to contest the state’s governorship seat in 2027, saying that he is not a novice in governance.
Bolarinwa said because of his familiarity with the terrain, he is not oblivious to the challenges confronting the people.
He stated this in Ilorin when he visited the state Secretariat of the party where he formally submitted a letter of intent to vie for the next gubernatorial poll.
“I am not a novice in governance. I understand the challenges facing our people and where urgent attention is needed. I want to assure that we would sustain and expand the developmental strides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” Bolarinwa said.
He outlined his vision to consolidate on the achievements of the incumbent Governor, particularly in the areas of infrastructural and human capital development.
Bolarinwa appealed to party stakeholders to support his aspiration, expressing readiness to serve at a higher capacity.
He added that the eventual governorship candidate would emerge from the APC and succeed the incumbent, regardless of opposition activities.
Bolarinwa noted that his experience in public service has adequately prepared him for the role.
He cited his tenure as a local government chairman and as a former state party chairman during a challenging period, stressing that both positions strengthened his administrative capacity.
In his remarks, the state APC Chairman, Chief Sunday Fagbemi, described Bolarinwa as a key pillar of the party in the state.
Fagbemi commended the aspirant’s decision to join the race, noting that the party welcomes healthy competition.
The APC state chairman added that while consensus remains an option, the party would adopt direct primaries if necessary to select its candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
