Ex-Kano Gov, Shekerau dumps PDP, may join APC

By Folayimika Akanbi
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another setback as former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekerau, resigned from the party.
This was contained in a letter he addressed to his Ward PDP Chairman in Kano, a copy of which was made available to Wind Gate News on Sunday.
The letter was also copied to the Kano State PDP Chairman and the PDP Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area in what could be designed as notification across party structures.
Shekerau said his resolve to dump the PDP was sequel to the consultations he held with his political support group.
It was learnt that the former Kano Governor may be on his to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following a recent meeting he had with the National Chairman of the party, Nentawe Yilwatda.
This medium reports that the PDP had been conflict ridden in the last few months, leading to its factionalization.
While a faction owes allegiance to the Bauchi and Oyo State Governors, Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde respectively, another faction pitches tent with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The crisis in the PDP is now before the Supreme Court for adjudication.
However, Shekerau, in the letter of resignation, indicated his interest to leave for another party to advance his career in politics.
He said, “This decision follows wide and extensive deliberations within my political group, to pursue our political career in a different political party.”
He expressed appreciation to party leadership at the ward level.
“I thank you for being a good leader, and pray that Allah will continue to guide you in your stewardship,” he added.
