JUST IN: Anxiety as Supreme Court reserves verdict in PDP leadership tussle

By Atinuke Alao
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into anxiety following the decision of the Supreme to reserve its judgement in the leadership crisis rocking the party.
Both Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction and that of Nyesom Wike-backed faction have been at loggerhead over the control of the opposition party and the nullification of the convention held in Ibadan in November, 2025.
The convention produced the leadership of Turaki while the faction loyal to Wike challenged the convention for violating an order of the Federal High Court, which stopped the conduct of the convention.
But Turaki’s faction proceeded with it, citing a counter order from the Oyo State High Court, notwithstanding the implication in the long run. The convention was, however, nullified for disobedience to court order.
The Court of Appeal also upheld the nullification of the convention, prompting Turaki’s faction to race to the apex court.
At the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Justice Lawal Garba-led a five-man panel, said a date for judgment would be made known to parties in dispute after counsel adopted their final written addresses.
The Turaki faction sought the intervention of the apex court to overturn the March 9 ruling of the Court of Appeal that upheld the nullification of the convention of the party in Ibadan.
The faction, at the court, argued that the dispute falls within internal party affairs, and is therefore not justiciable, insisting that due process was followed.
