A non-teaching staff of a public school in Ilorin, Amuda Kamaldeen Olubukola, has allegedly confessed to subjecting a 14 year-old girl to repeated defilement.
The suspect, who is 43 year-old and currently in the custody of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), allegedly admitted to the offence during interrogation, while attributing his actions to “the work of the devil.”
City Rove gathered that the the Gender Unit of the command picked up Olubukola after it received a complaint from the mother of the victim, triggering an immediate investigation into the disturbing allegation.
The Public Relations Officer of the corps in the state, Ayoola Michael Shola, made this known on Friday in a statement titled “NSCDC arrests school staff over alleged defilement of 14-Year-Old Pupil In Ilorin.”
It said the came to light after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter had allegedly become pregnant as a result of the abuse.
The statement noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim, a Primary 4 pupil, on several occasions inside his office within the school premises.
The victim further alleged that the suspect repeatedly promised to marry her before allegedly subjecting her to the abuse and, during the incidents, covered her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm.
The state Commandant of NSCDC, Abbas Nda Mohammed, who condemned the act, described it as a grave violation of the rights, dignity and innocence of a child.
He stressed that the command would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
“Schools are meant to nurture, protect and inspire children, not expose them to abuse. Any individual who preys on the innocence of a child, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offense against the society and will be made to face the full weight of the law,” Mohammed said.
The commandant vowed that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the necessary legal processes.
