The people of Isanlu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the lifeless body of a farmer, Azeez Garba, near his farm area.

It was learnt that the deceased had gone on a visit to his cocoa farm on a motorcycle in Owa-Onire, a village between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin while members of his family became apprehensive when he could not return home from the farm.

This prompted a search party from his family to find his whereabouts until his corpse was sighted with machete cuts near the farm while his motorbike was sighted parked within the area of his farm.

The state police on Tuesday confirmed the killing in a statement in Ilorin and announced a probe into the incident.

The police statement was titled “CP Ojo Adekimi orders discreet investigation into the murder of farmer in Isin.”

In the statement, spokesperson of the state police command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, quoted the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, to have condemned the killing and ordered the state Criminal Investigation Department to identify, track and arrest the perpetrators.

It clarified that no arrest has been made but assured the bereaved family, the people of Isin local government area, and the general public that every available lead is being diligently pursued.

The statement added that investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and ensure that those connected to the heinous crime are identified and brought to justice.

It said the command remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and would not relent until the masterminds are made to face the wrath of the law.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the gruesome murder of a farmer, Mr Azeez Garba, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, a boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.

“The Commissioner of Police, who described the killing as cruel, senseless, and unacceptable, strongly condemned the act and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to immediately deploy all available investigative and intelligence assets toward identifying, tracking, and apprehending those responsible.

“Preliminary findings reveal that the deceased had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return home, prompting family members and local vigilantes to launch a search. His motorcycle was later found parked at the farm, while his lifeless body was subsequently discovered a short distance away with deep machete wounds,” the statement noted.
