By Folayimika Akanbi
The Chairman, House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Kwara State House of Assembly, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, has pledged the continued support and goodwill of the Kwara State House of Assembly toward sustaining the expansion of healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the eradication of malaria in the state.
This is just as the lawmaker acknowledged the giant strides and positive trend in health indicators under the present present administration.
Ogunniyi stated this in Ilorin on Tuesday at the flag off and launch of the 2026 Integrated Malaria Campaign.
The lawmaker said the state government prioritizes preventive healthcare strategies —including environmental sanitation, nutritional support, and widespread community engagement as part of the concerted efforts to reduce the disease burden, particularly on pregnant women and children under the age of five.
At the event, First Lady of Kwara State and Chairperson of Nigeria Governors’ Spouses’ Forum, Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, reiterated the commitment of the state to the provision of universal health coverage and access for all Kwarans.
She commended frontline health workers, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, local government chairmen and their spouses and development partners for supporting the initiative.
Professor AbdulRazaq urged parents and caregivers to cooperate with Community Drug Distributors to ensure that all eligible children receive full preventive treatments during the campaign.
This medium reports that the First Lady, who is the Kwara Health Promotion Champion and Ambassador, personally administered SPAQ combination (Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine plus Amodiaquine) to selected children during the flag-off along with distribution of insecticide-treated nets to their parents.
The malaria integrated campaign is a seasonal initiative targeting the distribution of malaria preventive medicines and insecticide treated nets across the specific Local Government Areas designated as high risk in malaria prevalence.
The campaign, with the backing of the Federal Ministry of Health, enjoy the support of key development partners.
The initiative seeks to significantly scale down malaria transmission rates during the peak rainy season across several participating states.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, delivered a welcome address at the flag off ceremony.
