With the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC)/Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council for 2027 election, the Director General, Micheal Imoudu National Institute for Labour studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Comrade Issa Aremu, said labour issues with respect to secured employment, living wages and pension payments would determine the outcome of the poll.
He also explained that while geographical representation and regional balance are significant for presidential campaign, labour, women and youth in their millions are also critical voters in a democracy,
Aremu said this in a statement issued in Ilorin after his appointment as Deputy Director of the Labour/Union relations of the 2027 Presidential Campaign council (PCC) of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He commended the inclusion and retention of Labour, women, youth and People Living With Disabilities (PLD) directorates in the APC/ Tinubu 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
Aremu said Labour inclusion is “as much a validation of progressive politics as well as commitment of President Tinubu to decent work agenda in line with the recommendation of International Labour Organization (ILO).
Aremu hailed the appointment of Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Nasir Idris, as the Director of the Labour/Union Relations of the Presidential Campaign Council.
He said Governor Idris, a former National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has recorded commendable achievements in Kebbi with respect to industrial harmony made possible through prompt salary and pension payments, abolition of casualization and worker-friendly reforms, which eminently position him “to engage organized Labour on the labour record of Tinubu administration”.
Aremu also congratulated former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on their appointments as Director-General and Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election respectively.
He said with Senator Adams Oshiomhole as Head of Mobilization,
James Abiodun Faleke, appointed Deputy Director-General in charge of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring, 2027 election will be about “policy issues of governance and nothing more.”
It would be recalled that the Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu and Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Campaign Council respectively, while Senator Yari will provide overall leadership as Director-General.
