The Governorship Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kwara State, Prince Adetoyese Omokanye, has promised to deliver a “new Kwara” if elected in the 2027 general election, declaring that both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pose no threat to his ambition.
Omokanye made the declaration during the NNPP convention held in Ilorin, where the state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isiaka Lamidi, formally announced him as the consensus gubernatorial flag-bearer of the party.
Hajia Sururat Romoke Zubair was also announced as his running mate.
Speaking at the convention, Omokanye said he was fully prepared to commit his resources, time and energy toward challenging the established political parties in the state.
He also rejected the notion of categorising political parties as either “big” or “small”, urging Kwarans to see the NNPP as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 election.
“I promise you, I will never disappoint you. Whatever maybe the resource and the capacity we will use to tackle our opponents, I am ready to sacrifice my money, time, life, and everything to campaign for this election.
“People are saying small party and big party, I don’t believe in it. There is no party that is small. When you do Evangelism, bring people to this board people will vote us,” the governorship candidate said.
Omokanye further declared that the NNPP was capable of defeating the major political parties in Kwara, noting that he was not concerned about the strength of the APC, PDP or African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“It is your campaign, there is no big party anywhere, I don’t care about APC, PDP, ADC. I am in NNPP and NNPP will deliver Kwara by God’s grace,” he said.
The NNPP candidate also pointed to the party’s performance in Kano State during the last election as evidence of its capacity to make a significant impact at the polls.
He recalled that the party secured 18 seats in the House of Representatives and two Senate seats, expressing confidence that a similar feat could be achieved in Kwara.
“The last election this party produced Kano State election, we have 18 House of Representatives and we have two Senators. It can also happen in Kwara, this is the time that we need new Kwara,” Omokanye said.
Meanwhile, the NNPP candidates for the Kwara State House of Assembly were also announced during the convention as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general election.
