He described the deceased as a towering figure in Islamic scholarship and public service, whose life was marked by unwavering devotion to faith, learning, and community development.
Ajia said this in a condolence message issued through his Director of Communications, Mallam Abdulrahman Aliagan, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.
He expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the renowned Islamic scholar and community leader.
“Alhaji Ajia extended heartfelt sympathies to the Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Government of Kwara State, the Ilorin Emirate Development Progressive Union (IEDPU), sons and daughters of the Ilorin Emirate at home and in the diaspora, the Muslim community of the University of Ilorin, and the entire Muslim Ummah in Kwara State, Nigeria and beyond”, the statement added.
He recalled that the deceased served with distinction as a Lecturer at the University of Ilorin, former Secretary to the National Hajj Commission, former Chairman of the Kwara State Pilgrims Board, former Provost of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin; and as the Founder and Chief Imam of the Hilal Crescent Mosque, Ilorin.
“Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmus lived a life of purpose, humility, and service to Allah and humanity.
“His contributions to Islamic education, pilgrimage administration, and community leadership have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations” Ajia said.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed scholar, asking Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and give comfort and fortitude to his family, students, and associates.
Ajia urged Muslims to emulate Prof. Badmas’ exemplary leadership, commitment to Islamic scholarship, and steadfast pursuit of community development.
The statement also called on the Muslim Ummah to sustain the values of knowledge, unity, and service, which the late scholar championed throughout his lifetime.
The remains of the erudite scholar, who died in Lagos on Friday after a brief illness, were interred in Ilorin today in line with Islamic injunctions.
