Authorities of schools in Kwara State have been directed to reopen their facilities for learning following improved security situation.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, gave the directive in a statement issued in Ilorin on Sunday.
Wind Gate News reports that both public and private schools including primary and secondary schools were shutdown in the wake of the banditry and abductions.
Suspected terrorists had laid siege on parts of Kwara South and Kwara North with series of kidnapping for ransom in the last few months.
The ugly development prompted the state government to order the closure of schools as men of the underworld were said to have resorted to soft target in their terror campaign.
Investigation showed that security forces, had in the last few days, waged war against the terrorists in their hideouts in Ifelodun, Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas of the state with many of them reportedly neutralized during fierce encounters with the security personnel.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, in a statement issued through the Press Secretary of the ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, and titled “Kwara reopens schools February 2, as security Ops haunt bandits, neutralize threat to the public,” confirmed that the improvement in the security climate informed the state government’s decision.
The government said, “Schools across Kwara State can now reopen from Monday February 2, 2026. School authorities have been notified of the decision, which came amid continuous security operations to neutralise all threats to the public, including schools.
“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance.
“Security operations continue steadily to sustain the gains of the past weeks while the government builds community resilience along with the kinetic efforts.”
