BREAKING: Disu: Police Council ratifies appointment as substantive IG

By Folayimika Akanbi
The acting Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has secured the nod of the National Police Council (NPC) for appointment in substantive capacity.
The ratification of his appointment as substantive Inspector General of Police took place today (Monday) at the NPC meeting at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presided over the meeting that commenced at about 2:15.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the ratification of Disu’s appointment.
He said, “Yes, they have unanimously endorsed Disu as IGP.”
Members of the council including former Nigerian leaders were in attendance.
Disu was appointed acting Inspector General of Police following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, who advanced family matters as reasons for his exit from the force.
Tinubu, shortly after, decorated Disu as acting Inspector General of Police, urging him to rebuild public confidence in the police’s capacity to do their job in collaboration with other security forces.
The choice of Disu as acting Inspector General of Police was sequel to the retirement of Kayode Egbetokun last Tuesday.
The Senate is also expected to confirm the appointment of the acting Inspector General of Police in substantive capacity after the ratification of the NPC.
