For the umpteenth time, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State said in Ilorin on Tuesday that the priority of his administration was to build legacy and not a dynasty.
This is just as he declared that his administration has raised the bar of good governance in the state, expressing optimism that his successors in office would raise it further.
AbdulRazaq stated this in his address at the state congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where Prince Sunday Fagbemi was returned as Chairman alongside members of his executive of the party in the state.
At the state congress were stalwarts of the party including Senator Saliu Mustapha (Kwara Central), Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar (Kwara North), Senator Oyelola Ashiru (Kwara South) and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, among others.
The Governor, at the congress, urged aspirants for political offices in the 2027 general elections to be peaceful, stressing the need for a healthy competition.
He noted that the opposition had collapsed both at the national and state level due to the performance of the APC led government.
“For us in Kwara State, we have done exceedingly well. The past six years of our tenure have seen greater investments in infrastructure across very important sectors than what we met. Opposition has collapsed nationally and especially in Kwara State. However, we will not be complacent.
“We are now in the era of politics. The party primaries will soon begin. I, therefore, appealed to all our aspirants to be calm and peaceful. I called for a healthy competition amongst the contenders. We should work with those who succeed in picking the party tickets and wish them good luck. Those who succeed should also carry everyone along. It should be one family.
“Like I’ve always said, I am not interested in building a dynasty. I am here to build a legacy. And I pray for the person who succeeds me to do better than I have done for the good of our people. I have raised the bar; as a team we have raised the bar. Our successors will raise it further each year and learn”, AbdulRazaq said.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for achieving greatly across many sectors, saying that he is implementing a vision for a better Nigeria.
With the federal government’s policies, AbdulRazaq said Inflation has dropped, with stability in exchange rate while GDP and growth keep improving.
Describing the re-election of Fagbemi and others as a vote of confidence in their stewardship, the Governor enjoined them to work harder and remain committed to the ideals of our party.
