The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed for the first reading the state Livestock Farm Registration, Feed Production, Sale and Regulation Bill, 2026 and the state Public Procurement (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The two legislative frameworks, at the behest of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, sailed through the first reading on the floor of the House.
At its plenary, the House considered the bills for the first time after they were read as messages from the Governor.
This medium reports that AbdulRazaq transmitted the bills to the state lawmakers via a correspondence addressed to the Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
The state livestock farm registration, feed production, sale and regulation bill, 2026 sought a law to establish livestock farm registration and to regulate the production and sale of livestock feed ingredients in the state.
Similarly, the state public procurement (amendment) bill, 2026 required a law to review the state public procurement law, No 27 of 2020, so as to provide for an increase in the amount of open competitive bidding, restricted procurement and the approval of 30% advance payment among others.
The speaker, shortly after the bills sailed through the first reading, referred them to the House Committee on Business and Rules to schedule them for the second reading.
This medium reports that prior to the commitment of the legislative frameworks to the committee for further action, the House Leader, Barrister Abdulkadir Oba Magaji, had moved motions for their first reading during the plenary.
