JUST IN: PDP settles for Kale Kawu as Kwara Guber Candidate

By Folayimika Akanbi
The former President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, declared, on Saturday, that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has settled for Engr Suleiman Bolakale Kawu as the consensus governorship candidate of the party in Kwara State for 2027 general elections.
He disclosed that other aspirants in the race have resolved to withdraw and support the decision.
This is contained in a post obtained from Saraki’s verified Facebook Page.
Other governorship aspirants include former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Professor Ali Babatunde Ahmad; and Omar Bolaji Gambari, son of Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former Chief of Staff to late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former President of the Senate said the choice of Kale Kawu as consensus gubernatorial candidate was sequel to consultations with stakeholders in the opposition party.
“I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
“That candidate is Engr Kale Kawu.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus. It is this spirit of unity and selflessness that will carry us to victory.
“I wish all our members, delegates, and teeming supporters a successful, peaceful, and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries,” Saraki said.
