The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has postponed indefinitely the second edition of its Personality Lecture earlier scheduled to hold tomorrow, Thursday, February 5, 2026.
The Council Secretary, Mahmood Olayinka Alaya, who announced the postponement in a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday, said the decision was taken in view of the tragic security incident in Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area, where suspected bandits reportedly killed scores of rural dwellers.
The statement said the Union could not proceed with the lecture at a time the state, particularly Kaiama Local Government Area, was mourning such a colossal loss.
The NUJ sympathized with its members from the affected axis, the government and people of Kwara State, as well as the people of Kaiama Local Government Area, especially the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Omar, over the unfortunate incident.
The Union, however, expressed concern over the apparent lapses in intelligence gathering and urged relevant security agencies to strengthen intelligence architecture and mechanism to prevent a recurrence of such attack.
It called on residents and communities to support security agencies with provision of timely and useful information that could help nip security threats in the bud.
The NUJ reaffirmed its commitment to peace, safety, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
