Joint Kwara Labour Congress has threatened to picket the Headquarters of the state Ministry of Finance, Ilorin from tomorrow (Wednesday) over its failure to release outstanding salary of civil servants and deductions for May and June 2026.
The congress said the office of the state Accountant General be given the responsibility of immediate payment of workers’ salaries without further delay following the failure of the ministry to act on it.
This is contained in a statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday and jointly signed by the state Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka, Comrade Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa and Comrade Salihu Oluwole Suleiman.
The statement followed a joint congress of the three unions held in Ilorin.
The unions observed that the failure to release deductions and workers salaries was not unconnected with the introduction of new consultant entrusted with payment of salaries.
The statement said the outsourced consultant be discontinued with immediate effect while the office of the state Accountant General assumes the responsibility of paying workers salary and statutory deduction for peace and tranquility in the state.
It demanded that the state Commissioner for Finance be relieved of her position to allow competent and responsible office/officers to take charge immediately.
This medium reports that the joint labour congress had, on July 3rd, 2026 issued a 48 hours’ notice to the state Commissioner for Finance for the immediate payment of outstanding of May and June 2026 salaries and statutory deductions.
