The 2027 Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Rev. Cornelius Fawenu, has warned aspirants into leadership positions that unchecked desperation can ultimately lead to self-destruction.
He therefore enjoined leaders and aspiring leaders to develop the discernment to know the difference between healthy ambition and destructive desperation.
Fawenu spoke at Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church during a service organized in the Church on Sunday.
The cleric challenged people to examine what drives their pursuit of success, leadership and influence while trying to explain the difference between “Ambition or Desperation.”
He explained that vision backed by passion produces ambition, while ambition driven by the right mission can become a positive force for achieving purpose despite challenges.
Fawenu, however, warned that vision can become desperation when envy, jealousy, insecurity, unhealthy rivalry and ego serve as the driving force.
Drawing a broader lesson for leadership and politics, Fawenu noted that the desire to lead or seek political office is not itself wrong.
“The danger comes when the pursuit of power becomes ‘do or die’, making individuals willing to destroy relationships, compromise their values or pull others down just to achieve their objectives,” the PDP gubernatorial candidate running mate said.
