In what could be termed as presidential endorsement, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, on Saturday, led the Speaker of the state House of Assembly and APC gubernatorial flag-bearer, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, on a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos.
Though what transpired during the visit was not disclosed, Wind Gate News gathered that the conversation was not unconnected with the move to rally Tinubu behind the candidacy of the state speaker.
The President has been in Lagos for the past few days for the just concluded Eid-el-Adha, annual Muslim festival.
It was learnt that the visit would be first of its kind since the emergence of Danladi Salihu as candidate of the ruling party in the governorship primaries held on May 22, 2026 across the 193 wards of the state.
With the backing of Governor AbdulRazaq, the speaker polled 94,990 votes to trounce other frontline aspirants in the shadow election.
Musiliu Obanikoro-led APC Gubernatorial Primary Committee announced Danladi Salihu as winner of the party.
The APC governorship candidate represents Gwanara Constituency in the state House of Assembly and emerged speaker in 2019 following a political revolution that swept the former ruling political dynasty.
Danladi Salihu was re-elected speaker in 2023 and had since been rumoured to enjoy the support of the incumbent Governor as his likely successor.
Pundits believe that the speaker’s visit to President Tinubu may have laid to rest speculation over the authenticity of his gubernatorial candidacy of the governing party.
Wind Gate News reports that Danladi Salihu, a candidate from Kwara North Senatorial District, comes at a time that agitation has heightened for the region to produce Governor since 1999 that Nigeria returned to democratic rule after many years of military interference.
