The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, has been named first Tabariki Nupe, courtesy of Etsu Nupe, Alhaji (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar.
This is just as Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) expressed joy over the recognition of the legislator with the honour.
The Etsu Nupe is to officially confer the traditional title on the National Assembly member during a soon to be organized ceremony.
A delegation from the Bida Emirate Council conveyed the decision while presenting a Letter of Credence to the Senator in his Abuja office.
Barje Nupe and Chairman of the Bida Emirate Traditional Turbaning Committee, Alhaji Kassim N. Yawa and the Wakilin Labarai Nupe, who serves as the committee’s secretary, Alhaji Isah Isah Muhammad, led the palace delegation to present the letter of appointment to Senator Mustapha.
“The title Tabariki is derived from the Arabic word Tabarakah, meaning abundance and infinite blessings, and is interpreted to signify the “Blessed Son of the Nupe Emirate,” the delegation from the Bida Emirate Council said.
Senator Mustapha, in his response, appreciated the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, for the honour, describing it as both humbling and deeply symbolic.
The legislator, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin, noted that the recognition reflects the longstanding historical and cultural ties between the Bida Emirate and the Ilorin Emirate, which continue to reinforce a shared heritage and enduring brotherhood.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Agriculture, Production Services and Rural Development added that the honour serves as a reminder that contributions to humanity do not go unnoticed, stating that it would further inspire him to remain committed to public service and societal development.
Mustapha expressed gratitude to the Etsu Nupe and the Bida Emirate Council for the recognition, pledging to uphold the dignity of the title and continue to serve humanity with dedication and integrity.
The Bida Emirate Council is expected to announce the official date for the conferment ceremony soon.
Congratulating the Senator, the IEPDU National President, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, described the honour as not only good but highly befitting recognition granted a distinguished son of Ilorin Emirate.
In a statement issued through the National Publicity Secretary of the union,
Mallam Suleiman Shuaib Dagbo, the President said the honour is also a confirmation of the ceaselessly rising profile of Senator Mustapha, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin.
He added that for a foremost royal father to have singled out Senator Mustapha for the honour shows that his contributions to national development are too marvelous to be ignored.
The President, therefore, thanked the Etsu Nupe and the entire people of Bida Emirate for finding the legislator worthy of the great honour, pointing out that it would deepen the existing cordial relationship between the Nupe Emirate and Ilorin Emirate.
Abdulmalik wished Senator Mustapha sound health and every other thing he would need to discharge the responsibilities to the fullest.
