An Islamic scholar, Engr Kamaldeen Muhammad, has urged the youth to acquire quality education and right guardianship so as to prepare them for leadership positions in future.
He stated that it was incumbent on the youth to be properly educated when leading, warning that ignorance poses threat to politics and good governance if not addressed.
Muhammad said this on Sunday at the Ramadan Lecture of Government Secondary School (GSS), Ilorin Old Boys Association (2009 Set) held at the school’s Central Mosque, Ilorin.
The lecture was themed “Role of Muslim Youths in Leadership Positions.”
At the event that had in attendance a retired Grand Kadi of Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Salihu Olohuntoyin Muhammad, the guest lecturer listed fear of God, compassion, human feeling and good character as some of the attributes any youth interested in leading must possess.
He also added that leadership comes with responsibility and whoever is entrusted with such cannot shy away from it.
Muhammad, who recalled how Prophet Yusuf turned things around when he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in his society, observed that youths must stand as solution providers in a time of crisis.
He said, “I take this moment to call on the youth to utilize our youthful age productively while we are still active. As youths, we must become revolutionaries and forge a common front to change the narrative be it in politics or governance.
“It is in a time like this that youths should also be politically inclined and turn things around for the betterment of the society. Whoever among the youth is interested in leadership positions must be imbued with wisdom and quality to lead a group of people.
“Youths are expected to be solution providers to issues plaguing the society. We must also note that education is key in leadership. You can’t lead people with ignorance. As youths, we must have it at the back of our minds that we need to contribute our quota to the development of our society and community.”
