Five suspects are cooling their feet in the facility of the Kwara State Police Command in connection with kidnappings in southern parts of the state.
A locally fabricated revolver rifle adapted to fire AK-47 ammunition, along with eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, was also retrieved from the suspects.
They included Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, who were picked up during a coordinated operation in Oke-Iya, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday, Spokesperson of the state police command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the suspects were arrested for their involvement in the recent attack on Idiya community.
Explaining that five victims were abducted and held captive during the invasion, the statement disclosed that Investigation has commenced while the suspects will face prosecution upon its conclusion.
Titled “Kwara Police on high alert: Five suspected kidnappers arrested, arms and ammunition recovered,” the statement said local vigilantes, forest guards and police operatives apprehended the suspects following a credible intelligence.
“In a renewed push against kidnapping and violent crimes, the Kwara State Police Command has successfully arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition.
“On 23rd April, 2026 at about 1630hrs, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Team, acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with local vigilantes and forest guards, carried out a coordinated operation at Oke-Iya Community.
“The operation led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar, who are linked to the recent invasion of Idiya community where five persons were kidnapped.
”Further investigation revealed that two of the kidnapped victims had earlier escaped from captivity. Ongoing investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two additional suspects, namely Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, in connection with the crime.
”Exhibits recovered from the suspects include a locally fabricated revolver rifle adapted to fire AK-47 ammunition, along with eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.”
