APC primaries: Stakeholders, youths protest Ajuloopin’s move to return to House of Reps

Protest rocked Omu-Aran, Headquarters of Irepodun Local Local Government Area of Kwara and home ward of the incumbent member of the House of Representatives (Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun/Isin) Federal Constituency, Hon Raheem Tunji Olawuyi- as angry youths and concerned stakeholders openly rejected what they described as the long-standing political monopoly, which the camp of the legislator had allegedly sustained.
The protesters condemned the political bloc of Olawuyi also known as Ajuloopin for continuously occupying the federal constituency seat for over 27 years, describing the situation as unfair, oppressive, and a complete betrayal of democratic principles.
Chants of “Ekiti Lokan” echoed across parts of Omu-Aran as demonstrators accused the current leadership of attempting to suppress the political aspirations of other zones, particularly the Ekiti axis, which they insist, has been sidelined despite years of loyalty and contribution to the constituency’s political growth.
Many of the aggrieved constituents described the situation as a “one-family political structure,” alleging that power has continued to rotate within the same circle while other communities are expected to remain spectators in a democracy that should guarantee equal participation.
Findings showed that the protest exposed growing dissatisfaction among residents, many of whom believe the constituency has suffered from years of recycled representation without corresponding fairness, inclusion, or balanced political opportunities.
There were also allegations of non-performance on part of the incumbent, as protesters insisted that there was no visible milestone or project in sight to justify his continued occupation of the seat.
Many of the demonstrators argued that beyond the prolonged dominance of one political bloc, the constituency has allegedly witnessed little impact in terms of developmental projects, empowerment, or tangible federal presence under the current representation.
In his bid to return to the green chamber for the fourth term, there were reports that Ajuloopin participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries held today (Saturday) to pick flag-bearers of the party for the House of Representatives in preparation for next year’s general elections.
